Past Exhibitors from 2014!!

Here is our line-up of Exhibitors from 2014 to give you an idea of what is in store for 2016!!!!

ROY BRASH      http://www.roybrash.com
Roy Brash is a Canadian contemporary acrylic and mixed media painter. A native of Pembroke, Ontario, he also resides in Ottawa where he now has a studio.

Roy grew up by the Ottawa River. His love of nature had a major impact on his art and his later depictions of animals, landscapes and water scenes.  He admires in particular the power and beauty of water.

Roy developed his affinity for art in his early years. In primary school, he won a regional art contest and, since then, his passion for drawing and painting have never left him.

He furthered his artistic interests by studying oils, watercolors and clay sculptures, independently or with various teachers. His passion for figurative art has led him to further extend his knowledge in this area by taking classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
His sense of design and color has grown from his deep interest in viewing art exhibits in Canada and abroad. It give s him great satisfaction to use his art history knowledge and to relate his understanding of the past to current contemporary trends.

He believes that a painting should tell a story and provide interest to the viewer. Vivid colors and design are important to him and he tries to use them to express mood and motion.Artistic influences include Lawren Harris, Eric Fischl, Edward Hopper and many pop artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and sculptor Duane Hanson.

Roy has exhibited in many shows and galleries and won many awards. His works now hang in public and private collections across Quebec and Ontario and in the United States. Recently his works were selected to be part of the Colart Collection in Montreal.

JENNY BROPHY click HERE for Jenny's Facebook Page
Jenny's love of creating began as a young child when she would "get into trouble" for drawing in the margins of books at home.  Twelve years ago she fell in love with jewelry design, more recently with creating free-form wearable art pieces.

Jenny says" Creativity makes one see the world with different eyes. Every color, texture, shape and form have potential to become a unique piece. I let objects and components I am designing with guide my work." Jenny's newest creations contain elements of "steampunk" in their design. She also has a love of painting that is reflected in her hand dyed silk scarves.

Jenny loves interacting with people who purchase her work and is very interested in visiting with folks who stop by her booth!

SARA CARLISLE http://www.valleyartisans.com/carlisles/carlisles2010.htm

Sara designs and makes jewelry incorporating her own lampwork beads, those of other artists, semi-precious stones, sterling silver, and a variety of other glass, stone and shell beads, and has exhibited her work at several local group exhibitions in Deep River, Ontario.

Sara is a member of Valley Artisans' Co-op in Deep River.

PHILIP COTTRELL
Philip came to Canada in 1969. He has travelled all over the country and overseas, in his work within the Pharmaceutical Industry. When he retired he rekindled his interest in photography and has expanded his portfolio to include "artistic photography" which is an art form that allows the photographer to manipulate the images taken with the camera using computer programs.

Phil love old buildings and old vehicles and tries to capture the essence and the character, as well as the history of the subject matter.

He hopes the viewer will be led to wonder "who lived there" and "who drove that old truck?" when looking at his images.

LYNN DUNN http://www.valleyartisans.com/dunn/dunn2010.htm

From her studio in Deep River, Ontario, Lynn Dunn produces functional stoneware and porecelain pottery for all areas of the home.

She has been a full time potter since 1988, first taking lessons at the Deep River Potters' Guild. She continued the learning process through workshops and ceramic courses, which allowed her to connect with other potters and evolve with her clay.

Making pots that people use in their everyday lives is important to Lynn. It connects her to the person who uses her pottery and connects them both to the earth and fire from which the pots evolved. In her craft, Lynn has truly found her "bliss."

Lynn is a member of Valley Artisans' Co-op in Deep River.

SUSAN FRASER   http://www.susanfraserartwork.ca
Susan’s charcoal drawings are a result of life long study of nature and photography which capture the deer in their natural state. The most intimate poses are captured without awareness of a human presence.

Choosing to draw a head and shoulder portrait reveals their state of emotion through their eyes and facial expressions. Susan has an amazing touch for textures, catching the velvet of the deer’s coat and the shine of the eye.

The originals are done on toned (colored) paper providing both the background and the medium tone of the subject. The shading and highlights are done with black and white charcoal respectively. Many layers of varying hardness of charcoal are applied, blended and lifted with an eraser to provide a depth of texture to the fur.

Susan also has created a line of Giclée (pronounced ‘jee-clay’) prints in Limited Editions. The original images have been digitally printed onto Concord Fine Art Rag paper made from 100% cotton which is pH neutral and meets Archival Standards. The print permanence has been tested to exceed 120 years making the prints archival. Susan titles and signs each print before framing it.

Susan is a member of Valley Artisans' Co-op in Deep River.

PAUL HERRERA   http://paulherreracalligrapher.blogspot.ca/
Due to personal business, Paul has had to cancel his trip to Canada in September and will not be with us. Nancy Trottier will demonstrate Stone Inscription Carving in his place.

Paul Herrera’s calligraphy and lettering training was done exclusively with Reverend E. M. Catich. Beginning as an undergraduate in 1967 and after a short interruption of military service, Paul worked as inscription cutter and calligraphy seminar assistant with Father Catich until the time of his death in 1979.
At that point Paul was invited to teach Father Catich’s classes at St. Ambrose and would continue to do so until 1989. During that time Paul also served as a faculty member of five international calligraphy conventions. They include; “The Calligraphy Connection” held at St. John’s University in Minnesota 1981 and 1984, “The California Experience” held at Scripps College in Claremont, California 1985, “Innovations” held at Stevens Institute in Hoboken, New Jersey 1986, and “Calligraphy Northwest” held at the University of Portland, Oregon in 1987.
During his forty year career Paul has conducted numerous lettering seminars for calligraphy organizations throughout the Midwest and Canada. He continued inscription work for Wichita State University and an architectural firm in Chicago as well as individual clients. Additionally, he was watercolor and calligraphy instructor at the former Davenport Municipal Art Gallery from 1973 – 1984. He retired from civil service in January of 2009 and now works full time in his studio and offers workshops in calligraphy.
Paul was with us in 2012 to offer one of the original Art on the Lawn Lectures. He will be demonstrating hand letter carving both days.

ALUN JONES

JAMES LIGHTLE  www.jameslightle.ca
James was born in Port Hope, Ontario and moved to the Ottawa Valley in 2001.  Art began for him as a way to express himself on canvas.  He was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in 2007 after being injured on a military tour of duty in Afghanistan.  When he picks up a brush/pen he loses himself in the beauty that surrounds him.  He says, "The joy for life was gone for a long time and art brought that back."

James works in several mediums, including oil and watercolor.  His subjects are usually the simplest things in life which are taken for granted-the way the clouds can created images in the sky to the way a dog shakes his tail. James paints things not always seen or appreciated.

His work hangs in galleries from Deep River to Port Hope an all parts in between, in public and private collections.

LAURA MAYO http://www.thelivingcanvas.ca

Working as a fibre artist since 1999, Laura has learned over the years how to push her paints and dyes to their limit, making them perform under conditions not always intend for their use.  Largely self taught through experimentation, research and happy “accidents” Laura has developed a line of sun and ice dyed silk scarves that will stand up to everyday wear and carefree washing

Laura works with paints and dyes, and fibre so that she can capture the two things she loves most in art, vibrant colours and nature. On hot, sunny days Laura can be found outside in her extensive gardens, capturing the beauty of botanicals in sun dying. Laura’s art is driven by her determination to learn new things and her inner need to be challenged.

Laura is a member of Valley Artisans' Co-op in Deep River, but also has work for sale throughout the Ottawa Valley. Her distinctive colorful scarves, tiles and table service pieces are amazing.

She shares her life and love of art with her two sons.

BONI PATTERSON http://www.valleyartisans.com/patterson/patterson2010.htm
Boni has studied with Warren Thurston, Jack Reid, Pauol Thrane, and Art Cunanhan. She then had the good fortune to meet and work with renown Zoltan Szabo who was to become her dear friend, teacher & mentor for 15 years. He taught her to see the beauty in all that surrounds us. He taught her to see shapes and wonderful colours, to paint with her heart, and to honor nature always.

She finds solace and fulfillment in this magical elusive media, which continues to excite & mystify her with its wonderful happy “accidents”. She says “I feel I am always just on the edge of control. The paint has a mind of it’s own and usually leads me to discover new directions. I look forward to unexpected lessons when I take risks. I love the romance of the landscapes with soft lost edges but contemporary abstracts with sweeping lines & magnificent colours also appeal to my senses.”

She has exhibited in various cafes & tearooms and is a member of the very successful, From The Valley Artisan’s Co-op in Deep River. She has been a part of several Studio Tours, and Art exhibits in Peterborough area and the Ottawa Valley and has had a solo exhibit supported by the Ontario Arts Council.
